PORTRAITS AND LIFE STUDY PAINTINGS IN OILS
I don’t consider my paintings of models erotic, far from it. Texture and tone are what I look for, and I usually paint a semi-nude figure draped in white to accentuate the skin colour. The combination enhances the narrative in the pose. Body sculpture is also exciting to paint because it allows the paint to flow around the form physically.
My portraits fall into two categories: commissions and personal portraits. Both address likeness, personality, and form, but my personal portraits let me dig deeper when the subjects are people I know. It is always interesting to discuss with a sitter how I see particular aspects of their personality, and to better understand their beliefs and how they see themselves.
