Portraits, commissions and painting workshops

Engaging a portrait painter can seem a bit daunting, as can attending a workshop on a subject as complex as classical portraiture. But it doesn’t need to be. My role is to make the whole experience enjoyable and fulfilling for all concerned. Whatever your need, my site is here to help you know a bit more about me, my work and how I go about making my creativity accessible.

Commission me…

I work with oil paint onto canvas, using traditional techniques honed by artists, including the old masters, over the centuries. Business, family or personal portrait, I guarantee you will enjoy the process and love the result. Why not check out my gallery and/or give me a call to discuss your needs.
I also undertake equestrian and animal portraits in oils, using techniques employed by revered artists such as Stubbs and Sir Alfred Munnings. I’m always happy to talk through any ideas you may have.

Join me in a workshop…

Beginners, intermediates or advanced, I have a portrait painting workshop using oil paints, that will fit your needs. My workshops are small in numbers, but big in invaluable tips, techniques and one-to-one advice. I’m a great believer in positive teaching and my students always leave with the confidence and know-how to take their painting to the next level.
I now also run
equestrian and animal painting workshops in oils, which are proving very popular indeed.

TV coverage of the 100 FACES exhibition

This is a yearly exhibition for my students. It is well patronised at a fantastic location in the Cotswolds, and provides a great showcase for students and portraiture in general – watch this space for next years event!

Mall Galleries demonstration

To mark the launch of the new Cryla range from Daler Rowney, I was asked to paint the CEO live at the galleries – watch out for my wife at the start trying to open a bottle of water and thinking she can’t be seen!

Painting Charley Boorman

I painted Charley live at Northampton University’s Portfolio Centre, which he opened. A great venue for creativity and a top bloke for a model
