Student Exhibition
When I first started running my courses it became clear that equipping students with much more confidence, ability and ambition than when they first came, was something I seemed to have a knack for. But when painting afterwards they would almost inevitably hit the ‘wall’ much as marathon runners do, when isolation and lack of a specific goal caused them to stall.
Sometimes they would call me for a bit of advice and a pep talk, which I am always happy to give, and often they would, and still do, enlist on another workshop to hone what they had learned.
But it wasn’t enough as far as I was concerned…
100 Faces
In August 2011 I organised a portrait exhibition for all of my students. Each was invited to put 2 paintings into the show for a small fee. There was no selection committee; it was entirely up to the artist.
The event was held at Horseshoe Lake Lodge, a fantastic venue, over four days during which there was a private view attended by 200+ guests as well as local TV and regional press. A regular flow of visitors followed and the show was hailed by everyone involved as a great success. The 5o artists who took part put on a fabulous display of works and I cannot begin to explain how proud I felt at the many glowing comments about my student’s pictures and the general high standard.
100 Faces 2012
Well we can’t rest on our laurels can we? The next event will double in size with a host of extra creative attractions planned.
We have been talking to the charity, Childline, to partner us and help raise awareness of their 25th anniversary year, and to take 100 Faces onto a wider stage. The will is certainly there so watch this space…
This means that all artists who attend one of my workshops will be included in the show if they so desire. What a great goal to have for taking what is learned in the workshop and celebrating it on grand scale.
