Hi there, Mike here!

If you have made it this far you must be interested in learning more about the oil painting workshops I run here in the Cotswolds, with the help of Cathy, my wife.
Our goals are simple – to give you a fantastic learning experience, in a friendly, non-judgemental atmosphere, that equips you to go forth and artistically multiply with confidence.
We understand very well that each artists has their own individual goals and expectations. For many it will focus upon specific painting techniques, for others it will be a pure exploratory exercise, and for some it may be a confidence booster. Whatever your specific needs we are here to help.

I have helped beginners, experienced and even professionals, to explore traditional oil painting techniques across portraiture, equestrian, animal and, occasionally, still life subjects.  Whatever your interest or level, I’m sure to have a workshop that is right for you.

MY WORKSHOPS

Beginners in oils

Location: Lechlade upon Thames in the Cotswolds
Maximum workshop number: 7
Medium: Oils using traditional techniques
Accommodation: List of local venues available
Duration: 2 consecutive days
Cost: £150 per person including lunches
Suitability: If you see yourself as a novice to painting with oils, and would like to try working with portraiture or equestrian / animal subjects, this workshop is just right.
We will look at the whole process, from materials to choosing / taking photographs, and drawing to using oils, mediums and brushes.

Standard Portrait Workshop

Location: Lechlade upon Thames in the Cotswolds
Maximum workshop number: 7
Medium: Oils using traditional techniques
Accommodation: List of local venues available
Duration: 3 consecutive days
Cost: £180 per person including lunches
Suitability: Anyone who has, from a basic understanding, to comprehensive experience, of painting or drawing, and who wishes to learn traditional oil painting techniques on portraiture.
Amateur water-colourists, who are new to oils, semi-professionals, who paint landscapes in oils, ceramicists, sculptors and designers, have all been on this workshop to great success.

Advanced Portrait Workshop

Location: Lechlade upon Thames in the Cotswolds
Maximum workshop number: 7
Medium: Oils using traditional techniques
Accommodation: List of local venues available
Duration: 2 consecutive days
Cost: £180 per person including lunches and a model
Suitability: In this workshop we work with a portrait model over the two days – it is titled ‘advanced’ because of this fact and is suitable for anyone, including those who have attended a standard portrait workshop.

Equestrian and animal portrait workshop

Location: Lechlade upon Thames in the Cotswolds
Maximum workshop number: 7
Medium: Oils using traditional techniques
Accommodation: List of local venues available
Duration:2 consecutive days
Cost:£150 per person including lunches
Suitability for:This workshop is for all levels interested in painting horse or animal portraits. We explore two different techniques, both of which are similar to the classical techniques we look at in the portrait workshops.
I’m considering working from a live horse in future, provided I can get it through the studio door and keep it still. Students will agree a rota to remove droppings off the floor and bags will be provided for those who wish to take manure home for their roses!!!
