Horses, animals, pets – this workshop applies the same classical principles as the Portraits in Oils workshop. The course is led by a series of demonstrations showing how to create depth and realism using glaze and impasto oil techniques, and apply them to the subjects in their various forms from fur to feather.

We look at drawing, composition, under-painting in grey tones, colour mixing and texture as well as how to get the best use from photographs.

All workshops are facilitated in an informal style with plenty of one to one time due to group sizes no larger than seven attendees. I believe it is as important to work on someone’s confidence as it is their painting skills in order to give them the self belief to grow as an artist. Consequently I ensure the atmosphere is always positive and focused on the individual’s natural style and aspirations. I never push students to conform to ‘my’ way of painting.

“The works I did using your techniques have both been accepted in the Equestrian Society exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. I am thrilled to bits – it is my first attempt!”Ann Squires

“I painted a picture at a demo using your system and a lady asked if she could buy it. I was gobsmacked, and she took it straight from the easel dripping wet. Success!! It was a moment I’ll never forget and it’s largely down to your willingness to pass on your skill and knowledge.” Colin Hughes
